I COME ACROSS A LOT OF STUFF ONLINE.

Odds are that you do, too. It's difficult to avoid it; on the Hyper Connected Always On Social Internet of 2015™, we're constantly blasted with content of all shapes and sizes. Photos, animated GIFs, memes, macros, videos, news, satire, gossip, reports, #longreads, explainers, hot-takes, think-pieces ... listicles.

Not all of it is bad, but not all of it is good, either. I end up skipping most of it simply due to the sheer, impossible volume of it all, but I also end up clicking on a lot of it. Again, odds are that you do, too.

THAT'S WHY I WANT TO HAVE A PLACE TO SHARE ONLY THE THINGS THAT I ENJOYED CLICKING ON.

@stndrdGold is strictly for two types of internet-media-content:

  1. #stndrd viewing material, and
  2. straight-up, pure #gold.

#stndrd things are that. Standard reading. Things that were worth the time to look at, but weren't necessarily extraordinary.

The extraordinary stuff is the #gold

I DON'T WANT TO HATE-LINK.

I don't want to put anyone down. I don't want to make anyone feel bad. After all, this is all just my opinion! It's a rough world out there: who am I to judge your content strategy?

I THINK THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR A FEW REASONS.

Realizing that there's a virtually infinite amount of things to click on inspired me to be more conscious of how I spend my time online. We live in a world where anyone can publish anything and where seemingly any idea can become a national phenomenon.

A stretch goal I have for @stndrdGold is to take back the click, because clicks and pageviews are the new currency of the social web. One click equals one more pageview to sell to advertisers, and the more time you spend on a webpage, the more capital 'A' Attention you donate to whatever ads are displayed on that page. This happens intentionally or unintentionally, whether we like it or not, and somewhere down the line this capital 'A' Attention (through a complicated process) is literally converted into money.

In many ways, @stndrdGold is an experiment that hopes to to make me more aware of how I spend my capital 'A' Attention.

THE IDEA IS SIMPLE, BUT ITS INSPIRATION COMES FROM MANY PLACES.

HOW IS THIS GOING TO WORK?

There is a set format:

For now, @stndrdGold only exists on Twitter, but I have ideas for how it could translate to other platforms. I want this to be a more personal kind of content aggregation. I'm not trying to drive traffic to a page I own, and I'm not trying to get all-of-the-eyeballs to look at ads, I'm just trying to share cool stuff.

Hope you enjoy it!
